Blog Tour: Stronger With Her by JA Hensley

Title: Stronger With Her
Author: JA Hensley
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: November 1, 2015
Stephanie’s life has been on auto pilot for years. Growing up a child prodigy with a troubled family does that to a woman. Her job as a computer tech just reinforces her invisibility. She wants to be seen, to be noticed, and her solution is working part-time as a dancer. What she wants more than anything else, is to be known.
James suffered a tragic loss four years ago and has since kept his focus on work. He’s built Owens Ammunition from the ground up to be a very successful company. When his buddy makes him attend a birthday party, he’s forced to go outside his comfort zone. That’s when he sees her on stage and his world shifts on its axis.
One night, one dance, one fateful meeting that changes two lives forever. Will he find that he’s stronger with her?

“Now coming to the main stage is The Shady Sprocket’s very own Vixen!” Paul turns around, practically jumping out of his seat to get closer to the stage. I shake my head and sit back down, effectively moving as far away from the stage as possible. If Paul’s excitement is any indication of how this girl is, my bladder will have to wait so I can watch him make an ass of himself.

All the lights dim as the spotlight focuses on the curtains at the back of the stage. The opening chords of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” are blaring through the speakers, and I roll my eyes at the cliché song. Every stripper uses this one at some point. The curtains open and this tiny woman wearing platform heels, a black leather halter top and the tiniest skirt with zippers up both sides that barely covers her ass slinks out from backstage.

To be fair, everyone is tiny compared to me but she can’t be taller than five and a half feet without her stripper shoes. Walking slowly and seductively up the stage, looking at the men like she wants to eat them, she stops at the pole, leans her back against it and slides down to the floor. She humps the floor a couple times, bounces up to her feet, reaches behind and pulls herself up the pole. She spins around slowly and as she does she slides down, ending in the splits. This routine continues for the duration of the song. All the while, men are throwing money at the stage and vying for her attention while she takes her clothes off, leaving her in just heels and the tiniest black thong on earth.

Just as the song reaches the bridge, she looks directly at me. I find that I can’t look away, like there’s something holding my gaze to hers.

With long black hair, sparkling blue eyes, and plump red lips begging to be kissed, she’s beautiful. There’s no denying it, but it’s something else. I watch her on the stage, twirling on the pole and she looks . . . happy. Most of the women in here look bored like they’re trying to imagine themselves anywhere else. This woman, however, is smiling and enjoying herself; showing off her gorgeous tits as she hangs upside down, sliding toward the stage slowly. My friends have been dragging me here for years, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Obviously, neither have the rest of these men who are going crazy. I can’t believe the sight in front of me of grown men practically crawling over each other to get closer to the stage.

The bouncers must hate this. My friends are in the thick of the crowd, and I shake my head. Being over six five, I don’t have any problem watching the show from where I am. Def Leppard continues to blare out of the speakers, and she moves perfectly with the music. She’s really good and she knows it, teasing and wiggling just enough to keep the dollar bills floating to the stage. Why have I never seen her before and why can’t I take my eyes off her? I feel like I’m under some sort of spell, drawn in by a force I can’t explain but not wanting to fight it at all. It’s not lust; it’s something else.

She smiles and winks at me just before spinning one more time to land on the floor in the splits as the music comes to an end to the loudest cheers I’ve ever heard in here. This girl knows what she’s doing.

The volume of the crowd is deafening as they chant, “Vixen! Vixen!” It takes two men to help her pick up all the money on the stage but she walks slowly around the stage lifting the bills and giving everyone a little bit more attention. I follow her every move, unable to look away. When she finally makes her way backstage, the spell is broken, and I feel like a part of me is missing. What the fuck is that about? I throw back the shot that has apparently been waiting for me and shake my head to clear it.

Three years later...

A long time ago, it was just an idea. A little seed of forbidden love between teacher and student that blossomed into the book I now call my first baby. Once, it had song lyrics laced throughout the novel. Once, it was a screenplay and page one had Nina working at a movie theater. Once, it was simply for myself and my best friend. And then suddenly it was for everyone.

Three years ago, I gained a job title. Author.

My debut novel, The Low Notes, released from a small publisher called Rebel Ink Press on May 17th of 2012. By January of 2014, I released the second edition of the book myself as an independent publisher.

I've struggled for three years with the idea of revisiting Kevin and Nina's story. Readers ask for more all the time and I always say the same thing; that the story that needed to be told has been told. Still, people ask for a sequel...

A few months after the book came out, I posted an epilogue on my blog. The following year I posted a mock-interview with the main characters catching up with them a year later. Then I posted a new chapter on the second anniversary. My intention was to always have some kind of new material on the anniversary every year, but this year it didn't happen. Tomorrow I'm releasing my eighth novel so there hasn't been a ton of time for writing anything extra.

Here's what I'll tell you...I've started writing a 'sequel' a handful of times, but it's never felt right. I know what happens to Kevin and Nina and there's no story there. Novels--even novellas--need some kind of conflict and in my heart of hearts, I know they are happy. Maybe they fight, maybe there's doubt, maybe there's jealousy and insecurity from time to time but trust me, you don't want to read about Nina's frustration with Kevin about who does more housework.

Nina and Kevin live in New York.

Nina interns and eventually works for Confession Records (so if you want a quick glimpse at her you should read Natural Harmony).

Kevin writes and eventually returns to teaching.

They are happy.

A real happily ever after with no need for me to go and scare you into thinking they won't make it. The will. They have.

I'm sorry to those of you who were hoping for another quick scene from them. I hope to have more in the future, but I don't want to pressure myself into forcing words that aren't there. I would never want to cheapen the original story by writing them in an inauthentic way.

I'll leave you with this, the last line of the book. Yes, it was their beginning, but it will always be the true end for me. I said goodbye to them and left them alone to be happy. Three years later and I still love them, miss them and think of them often.
After all of the months of fighting and yearning, hiding and denying, loving then leaving, they were just two people in the end. Two people—at the beginning.

*I'm always open to answering questions about the book, the characters, and the fact that I plan to write more books set in Wexley Falls! Please contact me if you ever have anything you'd like to ask.

Cover Reveal: K.J. Coakley

Life is a series of chances and regrets. The weak falter, leaving the strong to suffer the wicked and depraved. Cole Stockton was a lion among lambs seeking penance for his dark past, and I was only too eager to escape my own.
It starts with a flicker in the distance. A slow burn that radiates a tireless beckoning. No matter how hard you fight to resist the allure, you succumb. Drawn in like a moth to a flame, only to watch your precious wings scorch and fade to dust.
I had thought there were only two lessons in life needed to survive.
One: Love, with everything you are.
Two: Live, for everything you dream.
But there was a third, and that was perhaps the toughest of all.
“Three.” His warm breath fans across my cheek as his fingers dig into my bare hips. “Fight, with everything you have.” The whip sails through the air and cracks across my sensitive flesh.
And fight I do, with everything I have.

The quiet click of the door closing brought her back from her self-induced zone out. When she opened her eyes, Matt was looking down at her with a soft smile.

“Join me?” She patted the water, making a small splash.

Matt eyed her speculatively before he reached his hand to the back of his shirt and pulled, lifting it over his head in spectacular man fashion. Never taking his eyes off her, he pulled the button on his jeans and lowered them to the floor. She almost laughed at his boxers with palm trees on them, but she got distracted by the sight of his abs and the dark dusting of hair leading downward. Once she dragged her gaze back to his, he smiled at her knowingly and shed his boxers.

Bending her legs, she leaned forward, unsure of where he was going once he was in the tub with her. To her surprise, he went to the opposite side and lowered himself so he was facing her. When his hands grasped her ankles and lifted her feet so one was on either side of him, she squealed in surprise. His low chuckle warmed her.

Matt scooped some bubbles into his hand and watched her from across the water.

“I haven’t taken a bath since I was a kid,” he said in an amused tone.

“I didn’t think you’d actually get in.” She laughed and raised an eyebrow.

Matt shrugged and ran his hands up her calves in a way that went straight to her core.

“Why not?” He gave her a pointed look. “We haven’t had much time alone since we’ve been here. I thought I’d take advantage.”

Her mind caught on one word. Alone. And what alone meant to her. She looked into Matt’s eyes, knowing what was coming.

“You ready to talk about it yet?”

Megan pursed her lips and looked over his shoulder. How could she tell him her parents disapproved so much, they were actively trying to set her up with someone else?

“No. It’s nothing. My mom is crazy. The usual.” She tried for casual, flippant, and she was pretty sure she failed miserably
.
Matt raised an eyebrow in question and waited. When she didn’t go on, he sighed lightly. He knew there was more. He always knew. He read Megan like an open book. There was no chance she would be interested in the other guy, so there was no reason for Matt to know. He watched her for a second, the air around them growing tense as his long fingers wrapped around her ankles and slid upward.

“Well, come here then,” he said huskily.
