Kate Roth's Review

A wonderful read for anyone who is looking for a different twist on the billionaire/millionaire sub-genre in contemporary romance. Henry is not your average money-man. He's sweet and geek-chic and his persistence with the stubborn Aubrey makes him likable without a typical Alpha's control issues. I'm hoping for a potential sequel or follow-up short with a bit of Henry's POV because I really enjoyed him as a character. The romance between Henry and Aubrey flows nicely and there is some serious steam to enjoy between these two!!

A great quick read! Looking forward to more contemporary from Ms. James!

What I've Been Reading

It's been a while since I did a post about what all I've been reading so here's a little re-cap!!

I started the year off by FINALLY finishing Torn by Kim Karr. I absolutely love her Connections series and I can't wait for me. River Wilde is very high on my book boyfriend list so if you haven't met him, do yourself a favor and start with Connected (now in paperback at popular retailers like Target!)

I also read Eversea by the lovely and talented Natasha Boyd! Talk about another hunk! Jack Eversea is to die for. I still need to finish this series with its follow-up Forever Jack. Can't wait to see what happens!

While I read it during its initial drafting, I recently re-read Hushed by my very good friend Britni Hill to prepare for its release. It's such a sexy, sweet read. If you are looking for something with just the right amount of angst and a perfect amount of steam, get this book!

One night when I couldn't sleep I started a novella on my Kindle called With This Ring by Savannah Leigh. Well it didn't take long for me to devour the novella only to find out that the sequel, I Thee Wed, was a full-length novel! Yippee! These books were so HOT! And very cute too! It's a fun story of 'pretend love turned real love'. The novella is the perfect hook so there's no way you can finish it and not want to dive right into the novel.

I get on a theme kick in some books and I can see that from the majority here already I'm on a fame kick! That makes a ton of sense to me seeing as how the Confession Records series I've been working on is all about the music industry and famous folks as well as the erotic romance I'm working on which features a famous actor as the hero! Another fame-driven read I loved was the quick and sexy The Rocker That Holds Me by Terri Anne Browning. There are quite a few more books in this series I want to read eventually. Love the band, love the tour-life setting. Great book!

He may not be world famous but Jack the Stripper aka Ryan from Strip Me Bare by Marissa Carmel, is one hell of a book boyfriend! I adored this book! I wasn't sure how I would feel about a male stripper as the heroine's love interest, especially knowing he had run away from her 5 years prior to the events of the book. Boy, was I wrong. This book had a great mix of sexiness, family drama and honest to goodness love. I cannot wait for the prequel!

On top of these books I also had the pleasure of beta reading The Billionaire & The Barfly by Adrianne James (coming March 29th!! a very sexy romance between a geek-chic billionaire and a girl who can't seem to settled down) and One to Protect by Tia Louise (coming April 2014. The 3rd installment of the One To Hold series and a second glimpse at Melissa and Derek!) I loved both of these books and can't wait for their release so I can share them with my friends!

And lastly I had the chance to read drafts from Lisa J. Hobman of her up coming series and from M. Katherine Clark from her paranormal historical series that she is currently shopping!

I consider myself very lucky to be able read advanced copies, rough drafts and finished books by not only authors I admire, but people whom I call friends! Check out all of these books or add them to your TBR list!

I am a mommy of two, wife to an amazing man, and full time employee. Life is crazy and busy! I started writing again for a group of women I met last year. They brought back the passion for writing I haven’t seen since high school. Starting this process was tedious and nerve-wracking, but my amazing ladies and my fabulous husband have inspired me to take my love for writing to the next step.

Awareness shot through her body and a chill worked its way down her spine as a warm body leaned next to her. Lowering her glass, Tess frowned and tried to ignore the sensation as she stared ahead.

“Hey,” a deep voice rumbled from her left, causing her eyes to drift closed for a moment. Without turning her head, Tess peered at the tall, dark, and handsome specimen next to her. Blake. A jolt ran through her when she took in his profile and Tess swallowed convulsively. Taking a deep breath did nothing to slow the energy buzzing through her.

“Hey,” she responded, forcing her eyes back in front of her. She hoped her tone was bored but, if she were honest, her voice was too high and a little breathy.

Up close Blake was gorgeous, and it was almost too much to resist. He had dark stubble running along his jaw and his hair was shaggy, laying across his forehead messily. She could see a tattoo on his forearm. It looked like script of some sort, but Tess didn’t allow herself to stare too hard. Then there was the ring in his lip that drew her attention every time she let herself look at him.

Blake shifted next to her and Tess felt the movement all the way to her toes. His arm brushed hers and her body hummed. Her eyes betrayed her, darting in his direction, meeting his look head on. Tess lifted her chin defiantly.

My Writing Process Blog Tour

At this very moment (in fact, all day today!) I've been working to finish my fourth book, Sway. It's the second in a collection of novels and novellas about the music industry called the Confession Records collection.

The way I try to make my work differ from a lot of stories in the romance genre is to give a very solid and strong female voice to my books. I love writing men but creating a strong heroine means a lot to me as I know the majority of my readers are women and I'd like to think that seeing a well-rounded, independent woman is better than some of the blank canvas characters I've read in romance in the past.

I write romance because I love LOVE! I like creating the moments between a couple and making the reader feel as though they are watching a real love story unfold. Yes, there are always going to be those over the top, shout from the rooftops, kiss in the rain moments that can only happen in books but when you get down to the nitty-gritty, my characters fall in love the way I did. Realistically.

When it comes to my writing process I start with a seed and write as much as I can with my initial idea. From there I tend to start to outline as the story continues and my outlines usually make themselves most useful when I'm in the very last few chapters. I like to write to music, usually with a glass of wine or a mug of black coffee!

So there you have it! My writing process in a nut-shell. Here's the newly revealed cover of Sway! It will be releasing on May 1st.
