When the words don't stop...

Thank you so much to everyone who helped with this week-long blog tour for the release of Reckless Radiance! I had a lot of fun hopping around to everyone's blogs and doing fun interviews, excerpts and giveaways. I feel very blessed to have an amazing support system of authors, bloggers and colleagues who love me. I love you right back.

With the end of this tour comes some very big news...my third novel, Natural Harmony will be released before the year is over!! I am tentatively putting the release date at December 30th BUT things have been moving very quickly and if I can get it out sooner I know I won't be able to wait that long. So what I will say is before 2013 is done, you'll have this book! 

It will be my very first venture into self-publishing, something I have been planning to do for a while and am so excited about! This story took over my brain earlier this year and even kept me from working on Reckless Radiance for a few weeks because it just wouldn't quit. I'm in love with it and I want you to be in love with it too. 

So get ready for my third novel, folks! Because she's coming sooner than I ever imagined!

Welcome To Penny's Pie Diner

In Reckless Radiance, Valerie works at the tiny pie diner, Penny's. I LOVE to bake and I really love making pies so I thought it would be fun to share my personal pie crust recipe with you. I have had wonderful luck with this recipe for those of you who have always been a little scared to make your own crust. It's easier than you think. Give this one a whirl!

Penny's Sweet Pie Crust

(Double batch for covered pies or lattice top)

2 cups flour
1 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup white baking sugar
1/2 cup cold water

Mash shortening into flour until shortening looks like pea sized flour crumbles. Add sugar and mix in evenly. Add water two tablespoons at a time and knead with hands. Dust hands with flour to make two balls of dough to be rolled out evenly in 9-inch diameter circles. Depending on your filling, bake pie crust accordingly. Most crusts should bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Paranormal...ish

Whenever I talk about Reckless Radiance I say it's paranormal but it's not overly paranormal. I want to say it's paranormalish but is that weird? It's not that I don't like that it's a paranormal book but it's first and foremost a romance book. 

The story is about Valerie, her loss of her childhood love, her toxic relationship with bad guy Henry and her evolving relationship with mysterious Russell. It's about her learning to deal with her pain and figuring out things about her life that she never knew, including how Russell has played a role in her story longer than she's realized. 

It's ultimately a love story between Valerie and Russell and Russell just happens to be a paranormal being. 

I think the book will appeal to paranormal fans but it will be an easy read for those who wouldn't normally pick up a paranormal title. I'm hoping that fans of The Low Notes will see the parallels in theme. It's still about following your heart and forgetting the rules.

Reckless Radiance Release Day!!

The day has finally arrived! Reckless Radiance is here! I didn't quite know how I would feel today. Having been through it just once before, I knew it wouldn't feel the same as the first time but it almost does! It's just as exciting and exhilarating and terrifying.

Sending my little baby out into the world, into the hands of readers, is scary and possibly the most vulnerable feeling ever (besides those naked-in-your-high-school-chemistry-class dreams). But it's also the sweetest kind of relief. After working on this book for five years, the day has finally come that it flies away and does what it will.

Reckless Radiance went through so many different incarnations but I'm proudest of the book it is now. The work that is out there today is what was meant to be all along. Cover Reveal : Reckless Radiance

Here she is! I must say, I am so in love with this cover. It is exactly what I imagined when I started really thinking about what Reckless Radiance's cover should be. Thank you so so much to Carl Franklin, Rebel Ink Press's cover artist, for making this stunner of a cover. I revealed this on my Facebook page last night and got a great response from everyone. Thanks again for all of your love and support. I can't wait to share Russell and Valerie with you this September.

What's To Come...

Looking back on the last year and all of the amazing things that The Low Notes has brought me makes looking forward to my next novel, Reckless Radiance, even more exciting. It is a completely different story but somehow they remind me of each other in a really sweet way. First Glimpse : Reckless Radiance

Well here it is! Your first glimpse at what is almost finished and ready to submit, my new paranormal romance Reckless Radiance. Thanks to everyone who helped me reach my goal of 300 Facebook 'likes'. Now on to 400!! If you haven't already please like my author page on Facebook.
 

After losing her childhood love, Valerie Gilmore runs away from home for a fresh start but feels more alone than before until a mysterious stranger named Russell comes into her life and seems to see beyond her broken heart and into her very soul.

Note: this section has not been professionally edited and is subject to change in the final draft of the novel.

      The ceiling kept her attention and she let her thoughts continue to race. She thought of the moments leading up to the surprise of Russell being alive. She was terrified. Her stomach had been so twisted. She thought of every single day she’d spent with Henry and her stomach began to knot even more. Emotions fluttered inside of her and she let out a sniffle.

       She tried to muffle the sounds of her tears into her pillow. She tried to suppress all of the fear and anxiety that had been building inside of her. Russell shifted and suddenly he was standing next to her bed. She tried not to look up at him towering above her in the dark. Slowly, he pulled a corner of the covers back and climbed in next to her without saying a word. At first he was still, keeping his distance but remaining present. Tears rolled down her cheeks and onto the bed.

       Soon Russell’s hand reached out to smooth over her hair. He tenderly traced her tears away with his fingertip. For a moment it seemed suddenly brighter in the room. Valerie thought the water matting her eyelashes was letting the moonlight sparkle into her eyes. In a quiet moment with her new enigmatic ally, with his warmth near her and his gentle touch upon her face, she felt what she never thought she’d be able to feel on that horrifying day. Peace.

       Her eyes started to grow heavier as calm continued to wash over her. Thankful that sleep was on its way, a smile crept on her face and soon Russell’s fingers were sweeping over her cheek. Again there seemed to be a glimmer of brightness lighting up the room.

       “Russell?”

       “Yes,” he whispered.

       Her eyes sank shut and her voice came out as a breathy sigh. “What are you?”

       Twilight was upon her, she was on the verge of a dream but she heard his reply. She was sure she heard him clearly before she drifted off.

       “I’m yours.”

To Spoil or Not to Spoil : The Great Blurb Debate

I'm having a problem and I need your help. As I start to wrap up my newest novel Reckless Radiance I've been thinking about what the description might be. You know, that little paragraph on the back of the book that gets you intrigued and makes you want to buy it and devour it. The problem is with this being a paranormal romance I'm struggling with whether or not I should tell my readers what Russell is before they even delve into the book? 

There's a of chunk of the book where my main character Valerie is unaware of who or what the mysterious new guy in her life is so I wonder if I should keep it that way for the reader too...

So my question to you is, would you want to know from the time you crack open the book (or fire it up on your Kindle) that the mysterious hottie is a (insert supernatural being here)?

There's clearly way more to the story than just his initial secret but does it spoil it to know before you even begin reading?

Work In Progress

So glad to have that name back on my screen. Can't wait for you to meet him!!

Before I ever typed the name Kevin Reed--I had Russell. Back in 2008 when I was getting back into the writing game after a long hiatus a Maroon 5 song sparked an idea in my head. That first idea has transformed many times and today I'm left working on an almost five year old manuscript, finishing it and perfecting it for publication.

I recently titled the novel Reckless Radiance and I can honestly say it's all I think about these days. The passion I had for it in 2008 has returned with even more fire burning for my story. It has been scrapped and rewritten twice and now in its final version (version 3.0) I feel confident that it will be a book I will be incredibly proud to share with my readers.
